What stays on your phone

Your saved products, saved label photos, scan history, settings, and the ingredient dataset all live in a database on your device. There is no account, no sign-in, and nothing is synced to our servers — there are no servers besides the two helpers below.

Label photos (on-device OCR)

When you photograph a label or pick a gallery image, text recognition runs entirely on your phone. Photos never leave your device — the camera is opened through a system intent (no in-app camera permission on Android), and gallery access reads only the image you pick.

Optional AI text cleanup

If you use the optional cleanup step, the app sends the recognized text only (never the photo) to our proxy, which forwards it to Google's Gemini API to fix typos and extract the ingredient list. The proxy adds its own key; the app holds no key. The cleaned list returns to your phone for your review. If cleanup is unavailable or offline, the app works the same with the raw recognized text.

Cleanup is on by default and can be turned off in Settings ("AI text cleanup"). When it is off, OCR text goes straight to the editable field and the app makes no cleanup call at all — fully offline.

That cleanup step uses Google's Gemini API free tier. Under Google's terms for unpaid API use, Google may use submitted text to improve its products — see Google's Gemini API terms. Only the ingredient text is ever sent, never the photo, and you can edit the recognized text yourself or skip cleanup entirely (offline mode sends nothing anywhere).

Hosting

The cleanup proxy and the product catalog run on Cloudflare, which processes the requesting IP address as any web host does; we do not store it, and the proxy keeps no log of request bodies.

Affiliate catalog

The Recommended tab fetches a small product catalog from our proxy and caches it on your phone (a bundled copy ships with the app, so the tab works offline). Product links open in your external browser. Some links are Amazon affiliate links: if you buy through them, we may earn a commission at no cost to you. Links never affect verdicts.

Payments

The optional one-time Pro unlock (saved products and history) is sold through Google Play billing when available. We do not see or store your payment details.

What we don't do

No accounts, no analytics SDK, no crash-reporting SDK, no advertising SDK, no cookies on this site, no external fonts or trackers on this site.

Permissions the app requests

Android: gallery image access (only the photo you pick) and internet access (cleanup call and catalog fetch). iOS: camera and photo library, used only when you scan or pick a label photo.
